Alienware Aurora gaming PC

High-end specifications and a heavily modified case make the Aurora an intimidating and very expensive beast

High-end specs ; Very fast SSD ; Excellent drive bays

Very expensive ; Cabling not very neat ; Noisy radiator fan

There's no doubt that the Alienware Aurora is a great gaming PC. It's fast and interesting, and definitely fun to use. However, it's very expensive. You pay a hefty premium for features that not many other pre-built systems offer, such as excellent...

Alienware Aurora

The Aurora is Alienware's mid-range gaming PC, slotting neatly between the Alpha living room PC and the completely over-the-top Area 51. Don't expect mid-range performance from the Aurora range, though: Alienware has kitted it out with high-end...

A powerful gaming PC that’s ready for anything.

Alienware Aurora (2016)

The Alienware Aurora is a more compact gaming desktop than some of the behemoths we've tested lately, but it's more than capable of handling VR and fluid gameplay on one or more 4K monitors.

Strong gaming performance. Plentiful memory and storage. Wide range of connectivity options including USB-C and 802.11ac. Well-engineered, compact build. Tool-less case and PCIe card slots.

A bit finicky to open and upgrade. Interior cable wiring could be better routed. Limited expandability.

In baseball terms, the Alienware Aurora is a fine utility player: reliable enough to depend on every day, but not as exciting as the grand-slam-hitting star. Consequently, like that utility player, the Aurora is a lot less expensive than the Maingear...

Alienware Aurora review: A lot of VR-ready desktop in a small package

The Alienware Aurora desktop can fit two new Nvidia 1080 GPUs in its small case.

The Alienware Aurora can fit two graphics cards into a relatively small case. Interior access doesn't require a screwdriver, and future GPU upgrades should be easy.

This is still big and heavy for a mid-size gaming desktop, some components are hidden behind the power supply, and some of the latest highest-end component options aren't available yet.

Alienware's mid-size Aurora is very flexible, and one of the smallest dual-GPU-ready gaming desktops, but it's still going to hog a lot of floor space under your desk.

Alienware Aurora Desktop Computer -DPCWXT03

In one sense, it's a shame, because the X51 was one of the smallest desktops that could be configured to run current-gen virtual reality headsets (which have very heavy hardware requirements). But the switch-up also makes sense because the revamped...

Alienware Aurora

The Alienware Aurora is for gaming connoisseurs who want a desktop that doesn't look like they built it themselves.

Uses dual video cards. Impressive styling. Customizable lighting. Overclocked CPU is liquid cooled. Includes Blu-ray drive.

Not a top performer. Can be loud. Video cards block expansion slots.

Alienware Aurora: Style Trumps Substance

If you're willing to pay for the privilege of owning a stylish gaming machine and want to avoid the hassle of building your own, the Alienware Aurora ($2600, as of 7/8/2011) is a solid choice. Those seeking the best price-to-performance ratio should...

A plethora of ports ; Stylish, organized and compact case

Cramped case discourages tinkering ; Relatively poor performance for the price

The new Alienware Aurora is well-designed with a great case and a few neat features, but it’s a little pricey and doesn't keep up with category leaders in our performance tests.

Alienware Aurora (Core i7-2600K review: Alienware Aurora (Core i7-2600K

It's been 2.5 years since we last reviewed an Alienware desktop . Despite a complete chassis redesign, the $2,569 Alienware Aurora gaming PC feels familiar. This system trades heavily on its stylized appearance, and although it has some interesting...

The Alienware Aurora boasts one of the more eye-catching designs among higher-end gaming PCs, accompanied by configurable external lighting, capacious hard-drive space, and a wide range of connectivity options.

This system's application performance lags behind that of more aggressively overclocked boutique PCs, and suffers from a small memory allotment and lack of affordable solid-state storage options.

We can't recommend the Alienware Aurora on performance and value grounds, but its memorable appearance might appeal to those interested in making a statement with a gaming desktop.

Alienware Aurora mALX review: Alienware Aurora mALX

Excellent 19-inch display; best-in-class gaming performance; top-shelf SLI graphics; plenty of A/V features and connections; comes with lots of extras, including a backpack and headphones; warranty includes onsite service.

Very expensive; extremely bulky; lid feels cheap; no external multimedia controls; no touch-pad on/off switch.

The Alienware Aurora mALX is one of the best, and one of the most expensive, mobile gaming rigs available today. But with Intel Core 2 Duo just around the corner, that might not be the case for long.

Alienware Aurora 7500

Alienware's pricey Aurora 7500 is packed with premium parts housed in a passé case.

Good gaming performance. Not as expensive as 7900 Quad SLI systems. Tested configuration comes with Logitech gaming keyboard and mouse.

Pricey for a system without monitor and speakers. Cooling fans are obnoxiously loud.
