Xbox 360 Slim review with video

Microsoft told us to expect an announcement much bigger than the renaming of Project Natal to Microsoft Kinect, and while the Xbox 360 Slim is by no means an earth-shattering unveiling, there is more than enough for owners of the more portly version of...

Built-in WiFi ; Slimline design ; Larger hard drive

Incompatible with old Xbox HDs ; No Blu-ray ; Lacks media storage capability

Microsoft Xbox 360 250GB

The new Xbox 360 250GB (also known as the Xbox 360 S) is the highly anticipated redesign of the five year old Microsoft console. What's more, it's out in UK stores now.

Sexy design ; It's quiet ; Built-in Wi-Fi ; Touch buttons ; Xbox Live

No HDMI cable in the box ; Uses disc tray ; Still mangles game discs ; External power brick ; No Blu-ray

New adopters get a great console for a great price at £189.99, and while we wouldn't tell current 360 owners to rush out and upgrade (especially if you've already invested in larger hard drives and wireless peripherals for the old console), it's...

Microsoft Xbox 360 with NXE review

The Xbox 360 was the first mass-market hi-def entertainment system to hit the market, and now three years later it's hit a price point truly accessible to every household - credit crunch or not. The new interface is smoother, slicker-looking and yes,...

New interface ; Great rice ; Loads of games ; Many of which run better on Xbox than PS3 ; Xbox Live is the best

No Blu-ray

Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim

When the Xbox 360 hit in 2005 it promised to revolutionize gaming. Microsoft got most of the way there (conceptually), but the original 360 hardware wasn't without its ... quirks.

Leaner, (slightly) meaner and quieter. Inches closer to the all-in-one entertainment box we've been waiting for. Cosmetic touches like touch-sensitive power and eject buttons class up the joint. Thrusts overpriced accessories ($80 for a Wi-Fi dongle?!)...

In many ways the same console we've been playing since Senior Year. Inter-console data transfers still require a wonky proprietary cable

Microsoft Xbox 360 S 250GB review

The original model may have been beset with hardware failures, but Microsoft's Xbox 360 is still our favourite games console of the current generation – thanks to smooth HD graphics, an amazing range of software, a great joypad and a well-conceived...

The new model is a great boon to those buying their first 360, but unless your current 360 is driving you mad with its racket then upgrading isn’t essential.

Recommended!

Microsoft Xbox 360 250GB

Is it an Xbox 360 Slim? Is it an Xbox 360 S? No, it's an Xbox 360 250GB!

Put simply, the Xbox 360 250GB is the best Xbox Microsoft has made thus far. It's better featured, with more USB ports and built-in wireless, its more energy efficient internals mean it's quieter and less power-hungry than its predecessors and, perhaps...

Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim review

Microsoft's Xbox 360 Slim offers improvements over its predecessors in every area, with reduced fan noise, a 250GB hard drive and great looks. It's really good value and, with the brilliant selection of HD games available for the platform, we think...

Looks fantastic ; Slimmer and lighter than previous models ; Very little fan noise ; Great value for money

Cooling fan in power brick ; No HDMI cable included ; Chassis collects fingerprints like nobody's business

If you're new to the world of the Xbox, this console is the best way to get started. There are also plenty of reasons to upgrade if you're already a devoted fan

New Xbox 360 250GB review

When we first saw its face in a Italian ad, more than one Engadget editor called its bluff: "The top half doesn't line up with the bottom," some said, "that's got to be Photoshopped." While that early image was indeed CG, the form factor was certainly...

Whisper quiet ; Energy efficient ; Integrated 802.11n WiFi

Generates more heat ; Still uses proprietary HDD system ; No hi-def playback out of the box

Xbox 360 (250GB)

Microsoft was the first to enter this current console-gaming generation with its original Xbox 360, a hulk of a system that beat both Nintendo and Sony to the punch. Despite the millions of Xboxes sold (or possibly because of it), the 360...

Revamped, more compact, elegant design. Integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi. Powerful 3D graphics. Excellent, diverse games library. Robust online community

Glossy shell attracts fingerprints and smudges. Although smaller, the power supply is still bulky. Still lacks Blu-ray

A still-solid gaming and entertainment experience coupled with a revamped eye-catching design, internal 802.11n Wi-Fi, and more storage make this the best Xbox 360 yet.

Microsoft Xbox 360 S (250GB)

Microsoft kick-started the "next-generation" of gaming on November 22, 2005, when the company released the Xbox 360, beating both Nintendo and Sony to market. Since then, the console has sold roughly 40 million units worldwide and has brought some...

Sleeker design; 17 percent smaller; much quieter operation; better cooling; touch-sensitive power and disc tray; 250GB hard drive; built-in Wi-Fi; five USB ports; dedicated Kinect port; onboard optical digital audio

The hard drive is still proprietary; controller on D-pad remains unchanged; cumbersome power block; renders existing faceplates useless; no cables for HD gaming out of the box

Though the new Xbox 360 certainly addresses most of the concerns we've had with the versions before it, we don't think it warrants a purchase if you already own an Xbox 360 in working order with an HDMI-out port and a hard drive.
