Monster Hunter: Freedom 2 PSP Review

Part of Monster Hunter's charm is its refusal to take itself too seriously. Whatever the premise and preposterously huge weaponry may suggest, this is a game devoid of pretensions. It's a game in which macho heroism walks hand-in-hand with slapstick...

Ultimately your affection for MHF2 will depend on whether you want to invest sufficient blood, toil, tears and sweat to unlock its true creative scope. At heart this is a fine game, pure, unapologetic role-playing wrapped in some of the slickest...

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (PSP)

Monster Hunter Freedom is neither fish nor fowl. This weird genre hybrid mixes action role-playing games, massively-multiplayer online games, and pastoral life sims like Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing. The setting is a strange and unfamiliar world of...

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (PSP) Review

You like monsters? You like freedom? To find out if you apply, read on!

This is a pretty nice piece of software. It has lost some of the luster since it has competition. If you like the original, you cannot go wrong picking up the sequel. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a very nice game.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 roars onto Playstation Portables across the world. Is this handheld title a worthy foe, or just easy prey?

Hundreds of hours of content, thorough possibility for customisation, great value (for a handheld)

Poor camera system, possibly frustrating control scheme, very select audience

Despite catering for a highly specific audience, Playstation Portable owners should give Monster Hunter Freedom 2 a serious chance, in case they find themselves engrossed within one of the deepest handheld experiences available.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2

How the dinosaurs really became extinct: One at a time.

Along with a very complex experience comes terrible tutorials and very little direction on how to get anything done. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 puts the onus on the player to figure out nearly everything, and the game is complex enough that doing so is...

Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Killing monsters and enjoyability, one quest at a time

Quests are handed out at the Hunter's Guild in three veins: hunting, slaying, and gathering. Monster hunting quests provide an option of either capturing or killing your beastly objective, whereas slaying quests require that you dispatch the fiend in...

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 Sony PSP Review

Gorgeous graphics and great-looking monster; customization options galore and lots of items to collect; fun AdHoc play with friends

No online play, even though there are downloadable quests; gameplay gets tedious, despite the multiple weapons

Sometimes people are hard to figure out. Take the Japanese gaming market, for instance. While stellar Xbox 360 games gasp for air trying to sell at least enough copies to make up reasonable capital, games such as Monster Hunter Freedom 2 sell an...

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 Review

Monster Hunter fans, prepare for more of the same.

Because of the missing online play, Monster Hunter Freedom 2 feels restrained -- ironic considering its title. However, that's not to say the game sucks, because it doesn't. Fans of the previous PS2 and PSP releases will still find hours worth of...

Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Forget what you know about monster hunting or this game will eat you alive.

Titanic in scope, the world is huge with tons of items and collectables; enjoyable multiplayer

Staggering difficulty level; daunting learning curve; somewhat repetitive gameplay

Twice The Freedom

Capcom is prepping the fastest million-selling Japanese PSP game for US shores. We go hands-on.

Bear in mind, too, that this was just a streamlined multiplayer demo. We still haven't experienced the single-player game (though, admittedly, it is all about the multiplayer), but if it's anywhere near as good in bigger doses as the stuff we spent...
